Sad Demise of Lt Col TS Mann

On 12 Apr morning when I opened my mail I found a note from Manmohan singh informing me about the passing away of  Lt Col TS Mann  in the morning. It was shock for me to hear this news.Though he was not keeping good health for sometime but I was sure that the fighting spirit that Mann had , he will certainly come out of it . Alas that was not to be.He has a special place in our heart as he was my first senior sublt in 41 and we have commanded our Troops together in A Sqn. Later he became my Sqn Cdr and I was his 2IC. There are many moments which I cherish but that part later. He was cremated on 13 Apr 10.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to  Mrs Mann and the girls Natasha and Rubi at this difficult moment of their life .May god give them strength to overcome the pain caused by the tragedy.

Raising day

It was a great fun attending raising day. Brig & Mrs  JP,  Lt Col & Mrs Jai, Lt col & Mrs  Shrigaonker,  Sexy sir & Mrs Saxena, Pat Sir & Mrs Pat along with chahat, Sandhu, parveen, Jiten Chauhan, Thakur, Suri , Sharad mohan self along with Leela and Cherie attended the function . KVK Prakash also came for a small time as he was passing through.

It was really fun to know young officers , ladies and the kids of the Regt. They all left no stone unturned to look after us. hats off to Vinay and his team. Shalini, Navdeep and other ladies of the unit were also full of josh . Bhullar, Ajai, Alok, Surinder Palia, Chawla and other youngsters worked really hard to make the event a grand success.They went out of their way to make us feel at home.Overall I can say with confidence that all the old officers of the Regt enjoyed thoroughly. We all also revived our old memories of the unit. Pat sir was in his elements as usual. Brig Saxena has'nt lost his old midas touch. Col Sherry's old songs were a treat to hear.Col Jai singh of course was not so well and we missed his rustic humor.

Lots of old jawans attended the function . almost all of  Jammu brigade was there, I mean guys from jammu.

EQUIVALENCE OF STATUS BETWEEN MILITARY RANKS AND CIVIL APPOINTMENTS ON THE BASIS OF WARRANT OF PRECEDENCE AS ON DATE

Irrespective of the pay equivalence, the President’s Secretariat vide notification No 33/Pres-79 dated 26 July 1979 (Amended upto Oct 2008) has laid down the status of military and civil appointments till Maj Gen / Jt Secy to Govt of India for official functions. The layout of the same is as follows :

Cabinet Secretary (Article 11) – Chiefs of Services (Article 12) – Army Commanders / Vice Chiefs / Secretaries to Govt of India / Chief Secretaries within their States (Article 23) – Lt Generals (Article 24) – Addl Secretaries to Govt of India / Chief Secretaries outside their States / DGs of CPOs / Director IB (Article 25) – Major Generals / Joint Secretaries to Govt of India (Article 26)

[1] Both STS and JAG Officers can be posted as DCs/DMs/Collectors. STS officers at times can also be posted as Addl DCs/DMs. The nomenclature of Secretarial Ranks for STS and JAG officers also varies from State to State.

*Note on Appointments in the Indian Police Service : The Distt police in charge is known by variable nomenclature in different States. For example, irrespective of Grade, the said officer is known as SSP in Punjab & UP but SP in Haryana and DCP in Metros. A Selection Grade IPS officer is also sometimes referred to as SSP.  JAG Officer posted in Police HQrs is known as AIG.

*Officers of the rank of DIG, IGP, Addl DGP and DGP are only equated with their respective counterparts of the Army if selected to hold these appointments through Central empanelment under Govt of India. For example, there may be an officer holding the appointment of DGP in a State but when the same officer is posted at the centre in a CPO, he/she may be placed two steps lower as an IGP. An officer of the rank of DGP is placed as Special Secretary to Govt of India if posted on a Secretarial appointment as are other HAG+ officers.

Netting with some Old folks

I have not written for long as there was no news to give about the 41 folks. No one is contributing. I was a bit disappointed that in spite of my cajoling and requesting many regimental officers none came forward. Later  I felt I shouldn’t be disappointed and decided to take a proactive approach.All officers and ladies are welcome to write in the blog, if anyone is interested then he or she should just mail his or her E Mai ID to me and I will authorize that person to write in my bog, as simple as that.  bmsrawat@yahoo.com

I spoke to Bhatta sir and got news about him. After his posting to Bhadrak, Orissa in a NCC Bn, he is now posted at Fort William Calcutta. He is in ECHS. Seems he is getting ready for his retirement. He is retiring in Apr 2013.  Magna his daughter has completed her graduation and now keen to pursue her post graduation in Management. She is a bright girl as far as I know her. Next I spoke to Capt Vikram Rawat : He is in Nawi  Mumbai. He is fine with his wife. Both, I am told, are employed with State Bank Of India. Mrs Rawat is a doctor by profession.  His Mob No is 09867568252

Later I also got a call from Col Ravi Saigol. It was pleasant surprise to hear from him after long long time. He is settled in D’Dun and it seems enjoying his meditation sessions. Daughter Ruperna (Pontu) has gone to UK to pursue post graduation in Economics. She has done her graduation in Economics from LSR Delhi, though she was a science student in her school. I remember she was a good friend of Ruchika when they were in 2nd or 3rd class at Pathankot. Later Col Saigol took PMR and I moved to Delta force so even the kids could not meet.  Col Ravi Saigol’s Mob No is 09719077805

I am in touch with Sainna Narla . His elder son Maanas  is inclined to join Army. It is really good. We have quite a few second generation officers, though all are not in 41 but they are doing proud to their parents.
